ZAMBIA REBRANDS IN MAY 2011

The Zambia Tourism Board is in May 2011 unveiling the country’s new tourism brand name.

The country will disassociate from the tagline “Zambia the Real Africa.”
According to the tourism board about 3,981 emails from 2,017 different people produced 4,445 slogans and 956 different images from 45 countries during a competition to rebrand Zambia.
Zambia is known to be a fascinating country with unbeatable safaris and adventure, great culture and friendly people and of course the iconic Victoria Falls!
Although it is still relatively undiscovered, with much potential, the government is looking to build on the sectors strengths and earn more revenue.
Owing to increased tourism, this would mean more jobs in rural areas, more funds for conservation and a healthier economy in a developing country.
Zambia Tourism Board Director of Marketing, Evans Muhanga has explained that the new brand will see a revived face of Zambia’s tourism sector and ultimately tourist arrivals.
The local tourism supporting body had recently tabled for approval before cabinet, the rebranded slogan and logo that will sell Zambia as tourist destination.
Zambia Tourism Board Chairman Timothy Mushibwe  has equally noted that once the logo and slogan are approval by cabinet, the board will launch the rebranded image in Durban South Africa where the Zambia is hosting a road show.
He said later this will be launched in Zambia at one of the major international conferences that country is scheduled to host this year.
Zambia was previous sold as the real Africa but the slogan created an impression in western tourists that the country is dangerously plagued by diseases.
Its anticipated that this new brand wil reverse the negative perceptions about this country known for its large scale production and not its beauty and other natural wonders that include magnificent water bodies.

Ends.
